Windows has been called a flawed operating system many times. Although it is actually a stable environment for the most part, it is not designed to shell for a digital video recording system.
Most digital video recording systems demand memory and CPU processing which is already used in many Windows based machines. The overhead can cause more conflicts unless dealt with by video board manufacturers. See Reliability
