Windows Based DVR systems rely on an operating system which has not been optimized for a Digital Video Recording application. Efficiency in the operating system is not optimized and resources may be "used up" as time goes on.
A windows based digital video recorder may require rebooting from time to time, as the operatng system may "leak" memory. See Operating systems
